Harmony Day is a day of celebration and unity in Australia. Held on the 21st of March, it is a day for embracing diversity, promoting respect, and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone living in Australia, regardless of their background or cultural heritage.
Each year, the theme for Harmony Day is “Everyone Belongs”, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and community.
On Harmony Day, Australians are encouraged to celebrate the richness of our cultural diversity and to acknowledge the contributions made by people from all walks of life to our society. Schools, workplaces, and community groups across the country come together to organise events and activities that promote cultural understanding and foster a sense of belonging.
This year, Macquarie Community College classes celebrated Harmony week, between Monday 20th March to Friday, 24th March. Across our campuses, our students embraced inclusiveness and diversity. Our students and teachers brought meals to share, sang songs and danced to their hearts’ content!
Two of our Early Childhood Education and Care classes at Carlingford banded together for a dance session, partying to some popular children’s songs. Here is a snippet:
Ayesha and Anjana from our Early Childhood and Care class were excited to be “celebrating cultural day”. Donned in their cultural attire, Harmony Day gave them the opportunity to share their cultural food with the class.
Our Computer Skills trainer, Nick, treated his Basic Computers class at Ryde and Intermediate Computers class at Chatswood with a mesmerising rendition of I am Australian.
Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us!
