They say you can learn something new every day…and you should!
This month, we celebrated Adult Learner’s Week at Macquarie Community College. We held an Open Day at the Chatswood Campus where attendees enjoyed free classes in Child Care, Computer Skills, Cyber Safety, English Language, First Aid, Flower Arrangement, Foreign Languages, How to Deal With Difficult People, Job Seeker Skills, Meditation, Singing, Yoga and more!
As the CEO of the College I find that Adult Learner’s Week is a great occasion every Spring to celebrate the Philosophy of the College:
“We believe that participation in quality life-long learning is transformational”.
Why is this our philosophy? Because engaging in learning new skills and acquiring knowledge can help our students cope with the fast-changing world, transform careers and income prospects, and be a means to a more enriching and fulfilling life.
We do everything possible to keep our programs affordable and inclusive so that as many motivated students as possible can stay committed to setting and achieving their life-long learning goals.
There’s always something to learn – you need fresh knowledge and skills for work, for making the most of your interests and hobbies and to get a new perspective on your own ability to embrace and master a challenge.
Your skills for work – are they keeping pace?
Nothing stays still in the workplace – especially when so many aspects of our jobs depend on knowing how to use computers, phones, IT systems, software and apps that constantly improve. Our digital literacy programs help even the most nervous “low-tech” students start on their discovery of the incredible tools we can use to be more productive at work and more connected and informed in everyday life.
Is your brain working as hard as you are?
Research studies frequently find that continuing to learn as an adult does good things for our brains. Acquiring new knowledge and skills keeps brain cells working at optimum levels – important at any age but particularly as we get older. The best part is, the learning can come in many forms not just sitting in a classroom or with a text book.
Stay connected in your community
Whether it be an english conversation class, starting to learn a new dance style or finishing a certificate in business the many forms of adult education available at Macquarie Community College allow you to meet new people and connect with the ideas of today.
One of the best choices you can make if you want to start making new friends and stay in touch with the modern world is to enrol in a course that will keep you engaged, interested and connected with other keen learners that share your interests and might live nearby.
Achieve your personal goals – and enjoy it!
At Macquarie Community College our students make an active choice to participate in lifelong learning here because they enjoy it. And that’s no surprise, given that research has shown that lifelong learning can lead to an enriching, more self- fulfilled life. When we learn new things, open our minds and gain wisdom we play a part in making ourselves a better person and the world a better place.
