The Macquarie Community College Careers Centre (MCC) provides a face-to-face professional employment readiness program that is supported by the Employment Readiness Scale™ (ERS) tool. This is an eight week program, with two 5-hour face to face sessions per week and an additional 10 hour homework booklet each week.
The Employment Readiness Scale™ (ERS) tool is an easy, user friendly online self-assessment tool that measures how ready you are for work, identifies gaps in work readiness and helps you create action plans to bridge the gaps and bring you closer to becoming work ready. Once you are work ready, your chances of finding and keeping a job that you like, are greater than 80%.
This course is suitable for those who:
- Are currently unemployed
- Recently graduated
- Are looking for a job or career change
- Are unsure about how to prepare and search for work
- Need support with finding services for your individual circumstances
- Have barriers and challenges in gaining employment

What is the Career Development – Employment Readiness Program?
By the end of the first session, you will get a detailed employment readiness report of your strengths, job ready gaps, and a personalised action plan to help you improve your career goals and employability.

The Employment Readiness Scale™ (ERS) tool is used several times throughout the program to measure and capture positive changes in your employment readiness, help you update your action plan, work towards your career goals, help find a job that you like and manage your career.
Course outcome
By the end of this course, you will have the skills and confidence to locate, secure and maintain employment.
A Statement of Attainment will be issued for the units where competency has been achieved.
What is involved
Time commitment
This course involves 10 hours of classroom delivery per week plus 10 hours of additional homework tasks.
Assessment
Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:
- Meet the requirements of the relevant unit of competency, training package or accredited course, and
- Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
- Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.
For this course assessment will entail the following:
- Reading
- Writing
- Role Play
- Completing a multiple choice assessment
What you need to know
Entry requirements
An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills is required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College will conduct a pre-training (PTA) assessment as part of the pre enrolment process.
You will be required to complete a short survey as a part of the enrolment process.

The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, funded by the Australian Government, provides support and training in language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills you need to prepare for work and further study.
*Eligibility criteria apply. The SEE Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and is free to all eligible participants.
Students will need to supply the required evidence in accord with the requirements of the SEE Program eligibility.
