Course Overview
Discover the art of Acrylic and Watercolour Painting – from foundational techniques to more sophisticated approaches, you will learn a wealth of strategies for creating stunning artworks as well as learn to select the right paints, brushes, and surfaces, whether paper or canvas.
For those working with watercolours, we will explore methods for achieving both flat and graduated washes, as well as techniques for wet on wet and wet on dry applications. Acrylic and Watercolour artists alike will delve into the art of colour mixing, both in palettes and directly on the canvas, mastering shading techniques and employing colours to evoke subtlety or striking contrasts. You will also learn how to add highlights, texture, and definition using lines and pen.
Furthermore, you will gain a deep understanding of tonal subtleties, the dynamic relationships between colours, and the complexities of perspective and composition. Course outline
This course will involve a combination of teacher demonstrations and student practical work. Students will be guided step by step by tutor though individual projects.

Course outcome
- By the end of the course it is intended that students will be able to create watercolour paintings using traditional and more modern techniques with a knowledge of colour, tone and perspective.
What you need to know
Entry requirements
No prior knowledge necessary. This course is applicable for beginners to intermediate.
What you need to provide
- Bring a notebook and pen and any materials you may already have
- First lesson – paint, paper and brushes will be provided if you don't have your own.
- Information on what to buy and demonstration of types of paints given at the first class
Other information
For those new to watercolour or Acrylic paint, or unsure which to choose, a demonstration and a list of materials and equipment will be given out and their uses will be explained at the first lesson.
