From learning the basics to more advanced levels. Learn numerous tricks to producing brilliant watercolours. From choosing paints, brushes and paper; how to paint flat and graduated washes; colour mixing in palettes and on the page; wet on wet, and wet on dry; shading; using colours for subtlety/harmony or for impact/contrast; adding highlights and texture; and using lines and pen to add definition

We will cover a variety of subjects such as seascapes, landscapes, still life, animals, and florals, honing your skills and unleashing your creativity in the vibrant medium of watercolours.

What you will learn

Course outline

This course will involve a combination of teacher demonstrations and student practical work. Students will be guided step by step by tutor though individual projects.

Course outcome

  • By the end of the course it is intended that students will be able to create watercolour paintings using traditional and more modern techniques with a knowledge of colour, tone and perspective.

What you need to know

Entry requirements

No prior knowledge necessary. This course is applicable for beginners to intermediate.

What you need to provide

  • Bring a notebook and pen
  • First lesson – bring pencils and paper, and any watercolour paints and brushes you may already have.
  • You will need to purchase your own paints and brushes. Information on what to buy and demonstration of types of paints given at the first class

A list of materials and equipment will be given and their uses will be explained at the first lesson.

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.
