Course Overview
Many people think Artificial Intelligence (AI) is something new that will affect us in the distant future. In reality, AI is already here and influencing our everyday lives. Tech Savvy Seniors AI course will help you discover how you can use AI right now and, furthermore, explore how it is expected to develop in the near future.
You will learn the basics of AI, including what AI is and its two major components: Predictive and Generative AI. During the course we will explore practical examples of Predictive AI, such as how text, speech, and image recognition work to predict what might come next. Moreover we will also experiment with Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and understand how these programs create new content.
Macquarie Community College operates from a range of venues across Northern and Western Sydney. We have campuses in Blacktown, Carlingford, Chatswood, Epping, Mt Druitt, Richmond, and Ryde. Enrol now!
What you will learn
Course outline
Basic Artificial Intelligence:
- What is AI?
- What are the 2 major components of AI?
Predictive Artificial Intelligence:
- We will explore practical examples where a program or application predicts what might come next based on previous data. Additionally, we will examine these predictions across various mediums, including text, speech, and images
Generative Artificial Intelligence:
- Understand how generative AI gets the information to be able experiment with one such tool, such as ChatGPT
Issues and Concerns about Artificial Intelligence:
- Understand that AI can generate nonsense
- Understand where AI gets its data
What is coming in Artificial Intelligence:
- Review some of the up-and-coming AI initiatives
Please note: As this is such a fast-moving topic there is no handout provided at the end of this class
Course outcome
Basic Artificial Intelligence:
- Be able to explain to someone else what is AI?
- Describe what is Predictive and Generative AI and how they differ?
Predictive Artificial Intelligence:
- Understand the different types of Predictive AI
- Text – Be able send a text message or email and understand that to the software is attempting to predict the words that may be coming next
- Speech – Be able to use Apple's "Hey Siri" , Google's "Hi Google" or Amazon's "Hi Alexa"
- Image – Be able to search Google Photos or Apple Photos Apps for images, of “Dog”, “Sunset” or “New Mexico” etc and understand how the software knows what is a “dog” and not a “cat”
Generative Artificial Intelligence:
- Be able to use one of the many generative AI programs such as ChatGPT
Issues and Concerns about Artificial Intelligence:
- Be able to explain what AI Hallucinations are
- Be aware of the impact of posting information online and the impact for AI
What is coming in Artificial Intelligence:
- Understand that AI is a fast-moving area and any presentation will be out of date as soon as it is written
