This course will recap on the ideas that were covered in Introduction to Internet – Part 1, so that we can build on those ideas and extend your knowledge with new options on how you can connect to the Internet.

Topics include:
- In this course you will learn how to connect any device to the Internet
- In your home, we will learn how to ensure you have the best fit Internet configuration
- When you go overseas, we will consider your options to ensure you continue to have seamless Internet access
Course outcome
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
- Name the two ways you can connect to the Internet
- Understand the difference between a Modem and a Router
- Understand that you can change the Router password
- Understand that you can connect one device to the Internet by using the Internet of another device. Be able to name what that connection is called
- Name the number of active ‘G’s and know what they mean and why they are important
- Be able to measure the Internet speed of any device at any location
- Know what is ‘Ethernet’ and when it might be of use
- Explain when you might use a Dongle
- Know the difference between a Booster, a Wi-Fi Extender and a Wi-Fi Repeater
- Explain the benefits of having a Mesh Networking
- Be able to describe what a SIM card does and recognise its type by its size
- Be able to explain what Global Roaming is
- Explain what is ‘IMEI’ and how to find out your phone’s IMEI
- Know the difference between a SIM and eSIM

Entry requirements
This level is for the complete beginner and assumes no prior knowledge.
This class follows on from the Tech Savvy Seniors “Introduction to Internet Part 1” class.
Prerequisite: Essential
Participants must be over 60 years old. Tech Savvy Seniors is an initiative of the NSW Ageing Strategy and is funded in partnership between the NSW Government and Telstra.
What you need to provide
- Notepad and pen
- An internet-connected laptop or desktop computer is supplied by the College. You may need to share a computer with others in the workshop
