Course Overview

The Spanish – Advanced course builds on knowledge from the Spanish – Intermediate course and assumes that you have completed at least two terms of recent study in Spanish tuition. You will need to have a reasonable command of the Spanish language as parts of the class will be conducted in Spanish.

This level is focused on communication and practical tasks to build higher level communication and comprehension skills . It is designed for students who want to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use and explore more complex vocabulary and grammar within cultural contexts.

What you will learn

Course outline

This course will provide a well-rounded understanding of the common advanced topics to enhance all Spanish language skills.

Topics and grammar points covered include:

  • Discussions on current global events
  • Conversations on complex subjects like socio-economic issues, environmental concerns
  • Study of art, history, and cultural heritage in Spanish-speaking culture
  • Advanced listening exercises
  • Combining different past tense
  • Effective use of subjunctive tense
  • Application of the subjunctive mood in subordinate clause
  • Verbs expressing change and transformation
  • Confident use of relative pronouns
  • Construction of conditional sentences
  • Proficiency in prepositions, especially the use of por and para
  • Use of reflexive and non-reflexive pronouns with diverse verbs
  • Construction of passive voice sentences in various tenses
  • Impersonal "se" in different contexts

Course outcome

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Use advanced Spanish vocabulary across diverse topics

Note: Enrolment is open to anyone 18 years or older.

Step 2 - Enrol and Verify

  • Verify your email through a secure link sent to your email address.

Step 3 - Receive Your Enrolment Details

  • You will receive a course reminder email a day before your class begins.
  • For Online Zoom classes, a Zoom link and password will be emailed the day before class. Use the same link and password for subsequent sessions if applicable.
